On the Menu provides the latest news from the Charleston area’s culinary community, including new restaurants, new menu items and upcoming events, as well as details about local chefs. Submissions should be sent to dailyjournal@scbiznews.com.

tartareExecutive Chef Adam Hodgson of 5Church Charleston has debuted a new summer menu. Items include:

  • Pan-roasted duck breast with Yukon potato latke, glazed summer vegetables and pomegranate demi
  • Mushroom soup with croutons and Gruyere
  • Crab cakes with Champagne mandarin coulis, with orange and mandarin mixed green salad
  • Tuna tartare (pictured) with avocado relish, ginger hoisin, orange, radish and sesame chips
  • Seared sea scallops with corn fricassee, basil, tomato confit and tomato lime emulsion
  • Arancini with Bolognese, peas, fontina and spicy tomato sauce
  • Cave-aged cheddar agnolotti with sweet peas, country ham and black pepper and summer vegetables

The restaurant also has a new outdoor patio for dining.

Caviar & Bananas has added four new sandwiches to its menu:

  • The Usual, with roasted turkey, brie, arugula, shaved red onion and apricot-rosemary marmalade on toasted multigrain bread
  • The ’Bama Salmon, with house hot-smoked salmon, jalapeno slaw and Alabama white sauce on sourdough bread
  • The Italiana, with Genoa salami, Black Forest ham, mortadella, aged provolone, red onion, arugula, tomato and cherry pepper vinaigrette on a baguette
  • The Zucchini Toastie, with sauteed zucchini, onion and garlic, homemade ricotta and aged Parmesan on multigrain bread.

Indaco in downtown Charleston will celebrate its three-year anniversary from 5-10 p.m. Aug. 4 with half-priced bottles of wine, specialty cocktails and a three-course menu for $35.

Nexton StarbucksStarbucks is building a location in the Nexton community near the intersection of U.S. Highway 17A and I-26 in Summerville, off Exit 199B. The new location will include drive-through service. Opening is scheduled for later this year.

Shem Creek Bar and Grill in Mount Pleasant is serving a Father’s Day brunch starting at 11 a.m. Sunday. Reservations can be made online. The menu will include the Shem burger, fresh oysters, French toast and more.

The Glass Onion in West Ashley is serving a family-style catfish fry platter on Wednesdays through Aug. 17. The platter includes North Carolina “Carolina Classic Catfish,” battered and cooked using Geechie Boy cornmeal and Glass Onion house seasoning salt, fries, hush puppies and coleslaw. Mercantile & Mash, in the Cigar Factory in downtown Charleston, is hosting a guest chef dinner with Scott Crawford of Crawford & Son from 6-9 p.m. June 23. Tickets are $65 per person and include hors d’oeuvres and dinner.
